Blueweld

This photograph was taken on the Ocracoke-Hatteras ferry, during my convalescence from mono. The fore and aft areas of the ferry having large plates welded to the deck, and this is a close-up of two of the welds.

I used my point-and-shoot SD800 IS for this shot, because I didn't have my regular camera. It is difficult not being able to control all the technical aspects of a photo, but the camera did a nice shot. Most of the editing was done in Lightroom, with some blemishes removed with Photoshop.

Alien Ocean

Bob and I visited Middletown's Saturday Market to seek out photos. I had envisioned some different shots, such as the creepy doll lady's pavilion of evil toys. I don't think any of those shots were any good, mostly from a composition standpoint. Either I couldn't get a good angle, or the background was much too distracting.

However, Bob had the idea to photograph some oil slicks in the parking lot. After some RAW processing and a bit of the ol' Levels in Photoshop, I present Alien Ocean.

Stained and Swirled

The church at Harpers Ferry is one of the rare sort that allow pictures to be taken. The stained glass windows have striations and swirling patterns that I haven't seen before, so I tried to capture it. I really like this picture for the texture of the glass and the rusty framing.

Seed Grenade

When we visited Oregon Ridge State Park (Maryland) a few weeks ago, we found these plants with large seed pods. The seeds were layered together like scales, and if you started to take one out, the rest would soon follow. I gathered a handful together and took them with me, and they stayed in my car trunk until last night.

Oil Dragon

This picture is the second of three oil slick pictures I took at Saturday's Market. The blue swirl takes the form of a dragon, perhaps spewing mountains of flame into the sky.

Oil Clouds

The last in the series of happened-upon oil slick pictures. This one reminds me of some sort of surrealistic or impressionistic canvas that got out of control, or oily clouds on a moon of Saturn. I think the soft blue area is very calming, but is intruded upon by the angry orange blob. Well, whatever. :)

Liquified Autumn

This piece will be the last for a bit, at least until I return home from a business trip. I was fortunate to even download this from the memory card; I had left about 10 shots from Harpers Ferry on a separate card. The river was drowning leaves, and some had bunched up against the rock-littered shore. Running water and bright sunlight created an impressionistic effect, blurring and rippling the leaves.

Riveting Triptych

Took this picture while visiting the Aviation Museum. The front of a plane (forget which type) was bulbous and covered with welds and rivets. I took a few pictures from several different angles, and decided to present them together as one piece.
